I am not embarrassed to admit this because I am certain that all cat owners do it. Kitty eats on a shelf so that the dog cannot disturb her mealtimes with his giant slobbery muzzle. Sometimes Kitty complains that she cannot reach her food. I know that she can, she eats it all the time, she is chubby and does not starve. But she complains so loudly and so persistently that her food is all the way up THERE. Then I cave in, bend down and pick her fat lazy ass up and put her on the shelf.
