Blogger Crush – Joy of Fashion

I’ve been using Pinterest to pin outfits by my favorite bloggers that I can recreate. A couple weeks ago I pinned a look from Joy of Fashion with a bright yellow shirt and a white top.

Here is my version of Marie’s look.

Yellow Wrap Skirt: Cherry Bomb (local reseller) 12$, Striped Button Down: NY&C 13$, Shoes: Sears I think 15$, Necklace: Target 12$

Joy of Fashion is one of those blogs I’ve been reading forever but haven’t commented on a lot. I forget sometimes that other blogger ladies like reading comments as much as I do.  I love her style and all of her bright colors. Also her hair. Her hair is awesome.

Birthday Party

Several weeks ago I mentioned that I was planning a belated birthday party for myself. Which we FINALLY threw this Saturday. And we pretty much had a blast. It was a ‘scavenger hunt’ themed party. Here are some photos and some deets from the date (I am uploading them to here even before I figure out which ones I’m going to put on Facebook, that’s how important you guys are to me.)

We started in the apartment with a Loren themed word scramble. The final answer lead them to the next clue.

A sign that the local coffee shop let me hang in their window (I double checked with all the local shops we used while planning.) This clue took them to the book store down the street where they had to look up each word in the next clue from a book (some of them were in French.)

I bought some tiny dark chocolates from Just Creations took them home, and stuck a little clue inside that lead them back to Ian’s Treat Jar.

Where we hid little rolled up maps (tied with glittery string). That were ‘written by Ian’. So they included loads of little things like ‘Stop here to smell a tree’ and ‘Turn left at the yellow ‘Yeld’ sign which memorializes where someone once yeld at a good dog for no reason. Never forget’. Kent and I anthropomorphize our pets a ridiculous amount. So it was only fair that he was included in the scavenger hunt.

Ian’s Map lead them to my mother’s house. Where I hid a clue in her front yard. Jars with pictographs in them. I ‘glittered’ the lids of the recycled jars and tied little ribbons to them to make sure they were easy to find. The pictograph lead everyone to the final location. A local bar where there was ice cream cake (and beer) waiting for everyone. We had a pretty great time. After the bar we met up with a couple other friends and then headed out for karaoke, because we all love karaoke.

The Maxi Moto Combo

Tank top: Old Navy 5$, Striped maxi dress (as skirt) Target 11$, Pink Moto Jacket: Target 8$, Belt: Target 4$, Off Broadway 26$, Earrings & Necklace: Just Creations 8$ each

Dear Internet: I have a confession and that is that I got all dressed up, put on my make-up, fixed combed my hair, and then DIDN’T LEAVE MY COUCH. The plus side, jersey maxi-skirts are the BEST for napping and playing computer games on the couch all day.

We did have plans to go to Art in Speed Park with Curly-Haired-Boy’s parents. But he ended up having to work and I chickened out and did not go with just his parents. This is what I would have worn… Sans the boots. Because it is outside, in a field.

Thanks to Nora and Megan for choosing Olivia Wilde as the ‘inspiration’ this week.

Book Week

I made a promise to myself to read more books to try to expand my boundaries. So to keep myself accountable I’m going to put up a post at the end of each month about the books I’m reading.

My Mother lent me The Help this isn’t normally the type of fiction that I read. But my mother said it was really good. I’m only a couple dozen pages in (this is my lunch break book) but so far I cannot get past the fact that it is written in vernacular. And I am always irritated when books are written that way. I will work my way further into the book before I give up though.

I finished off the first book Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants on vacation, because I was on vacation and I got it really cheap. And well… I can’t lie I really enjoyed it. So I picked up the The Second Summer of the Sisterhood and this one is also a lot of fun so far. I know this doesn’t make me sound smart and ‘cool’ but reading should be fun and I’ve been enjoying them.

Summer Version of an Outfit

I think everyone has that backup outfit for days when they just don’t feel like thinking about clothes. I previously blogged my cold weather outfit.

Shirt: Old Navy, Belt & tights: Target, Skirt & Boots: Vintage/Thrifted, Necklace: Refashioned T-Shirt

This is the summer version of my ‘favorite outfit’. Same black skirt. Exchange long sleeve teal shirt for short sleeve teal shirt. Nix the stockings and trade red boots for open toed wedges.

Shirt: Old Navy, Belt: Target, Skirt: Hand me down, Necklace: Just Creations, Shoes: Target

When I wore this out last week a lady stopped me in Panera and asked ‘Did you get those shoes from Target? I think I tried those on one time…’ which is why I knew where these were from.

I almost forgot! I wrote a couple days ago that curly-haired boy was planning a surprise. Well we went out to the bar and a friend of ours showed up with his guitar. Now Kent is not a ‘singer’ but he wrote me a song! It was for our third anniversary but he was 3 months late :P The subject was a little ‘adult themed’ (we were at a comedy show) so if you are sensitive to that type of subject matter ignore the rest of this post and focus on the pretty pictures.

The song was a promise that he loves me so much that he pictures me when he is… you know… pleasureing himself. I wish I had a working video camera becuase it was seriously awesome you guys. And surprisingly sweet… Pretty sure I want to spend the rest of my life with that guy. BUT DON’T TELL HIM! I don’t want him getting any bright ideas about the future or anything. Comedians are way funnier when they are depressed, that is why I always try to kick him when he is down.
