Skirt Alteration & Hovering

I snagged this skirt at goodwill for a couple dollars, because I really LOVED the pattern and the fact that it was corduroy. When I tried it on the waist fit perfectly but the pleats in front sat a little differently than I expected. I bought it anyway and threw it into my ‘alterations’ pile. Here’s the final version.

The pocket had a big hole in it as well so there was a little more work put into this than just the hem I’d originally planned, but I’ve gotta say I’m really pleased with the result. It’s such a great pattern and I feel like it sits on my waist at exactly in the correct spot. I’m in <3 with it.

Also, this is me attempting hovering. I’ve seen it on some other blogs and wanted to try it. Because I’m cool like that.

Goodbye Google Friend Connect!

Google recently announced they were going to retire Google Friend Connect on non-blogger pages. This may not affect you, but I run a WordPress blog. So starting in March you’ll no longer be able to follow me via Google friend connect. I’m a long time RSS person so this doesn’t really affect the way I read blog either.

But if you are currently only following me via Google Friend Connect, and you want to keep up with me from here on out you’ll probably want to add me to your RSS reader, or follow via blog-lovin, or whatever it is you kids like to do these days. I went ahead and removed the widget from my sidebar so no one else could add me that way.

I personally don’t have much of an opinion either on the removal of this product, I never really used Google Friend Connect. I only added it to my side bar for added ease for my readers, and I mostly followed people when they did a giveaway and insisted that you follow via Google Friend Connect. The list would occasionally get mixed up with my Google Reader and then I’d have doubles of all the blogs I’d accidentally followed both ways. I hope this doesn’t severely decrease my readership, but it’s not like I had a huge number of followers to begin with, so I think I’m safe. :)

NEW BOOTS & Wool on Wool

The day I wore this it was much to warm to be wearing a wool sweater AND a wool jumper. But I never listen to weather forecasts, because I am a rebel.

I got this jumper at a consignment store. When I first got it, it was a little frumpy, then it became kind of flattering, and moved all the way up to ‘nearly scandalous’. That’s when I realized this jumper was real wool and I should stop washing it. (In case you are from Great Britain I mean jumper the American way, not the sweater. Also what do Britans call ‘American jumpers’?)

Jumper & Sweater: Thrifted, Boots: Chinese Laundry

Me and boots have a really inappropriate relationship. I own about 30 or so pairs of shoes… Which seems a little excessive to me, but not extreme. Except that about half of those are boots. The other day you guys, I got another pair of new boots. I ordered them from Zappos because I ordered Curly-haired-boy a Christmas present… So naturally I have to add in something for myself right? Sure.

You guys they are exactly the boots I was looking for, low heel, perfect color, slouchy, and with no buckles or fringe or weird designs on the the side. Which I know is very specific criteria for a boot search but I had a pair of vintage boots like this that I loved until then Ian-dog ate them. But I bought another pair on Etsy! And I wore them into the ground. Seriously ruined them. So my closet had this big cognac boot shaped hole, and I filled it. This color boot goes with EVERYTHING. Seriously, I think it should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.

Etsy Shopping Sprees!

Happy Belated Black Friday! I spent the day drinking hot tea, playing board games with my family and a little later volunteering but in the spirit of the Holiday I posted about my purchases from the Etsy shopping spree I went on a couple weeks ago. Which I finally managed to get photos of, they’ve been surprisingly hard to photograph.

1.) The Blue Cape

You guys I am in love with this. I thought once it came in the mail I might feel like it was ‘to much’ but instead I am just in love with it. I feel like a storybook character every time I leave the house. Also apparently capes are perfect in the rain. I wore it out to walk the dog with my grungy old blue galoshes and I’m pretty sure my neighbors thought I was a ghost. Once again I felt a little guilty for actually WEARING this beautiful vintage piece which is in impeccable condition. And then I remembered clothes are meant to be worn, and I promise to take good care of it.

However, pretty sure that all good capes need a purse muff. Which I became a little obsessed with since I saw Virginie using one. (How freaking cute is she?) So I’m probably going to have to try to make one… I will let you know how that turns out (it looks really great in my head).

2.) Green Bowler

Speaking of Virginie, I bought this from her shop. Rarely do I see something and fall SO in love that I have to order it via internet instead of waiting for one to show up in a thrift store near me. This emerald green bowler was one of those things. It also make me feel a little like a character in a story book, but a completely different book than the cape…
I’ve already introduced you guys to my camel bowler, (Which Kelley says should be my signature piece.) This is his new friend the emerald green bowler. She wishes she could have been an extra on Blossom and wants everyone to wear overalls again.

Giving Thanks

Today is Thanksgiving in America. I’m embracing the motivations behind this holiday to celebrate all the amazing things that I am grateful to have in my life and take a moment to give thanks for the many fantastic things that just seem to overwhelm my life. In no particular order. No outfit pictures today because I am to busy eating to much food to stop and take pictures of how cute I look in my pants with an expandable waist-band.

  1. Karaoke
  2. Funny Cat Photos
  3. A certain Curly-Haired-Boy
  4. Netflix Instant View (I’m going to watch ALL the things)
  5. My coworkers put most of their music collections available through the network so every time I get an itching to listen to something specific I can usually find it.
  6. The cutest dog (he’s mine, not yours)
  7. Kitty Cuddles
  8. Disposable Income
  9. A family that knows how to cook (even if I don’t)
  10. Having the time, money, & energy to volunteer or donate to causes that mean the most to me.
  11. You guys. OMG YOU ARE THE BEST. I always thought the internet was full of angry mean people I guess that’s what I get for reading to many comments on YouTube videos. Thanks for being awesome.
