Learning to Pattern Mix

Shoes, Socks, Leggings, Jacket: Target, Shirt: NY&C, Skirt: Express, Hat: Just Creations

The last ‘winter prompt’ from Freckles in April this week was Pattern Mixing.

This was hard for me because although I’m in no way against pattern mixing, or scared of it. I simply do not own very many patterned items. A couple dresses, a couple tanks tops, and well this skirt. I have lots of solid colored items that even manage to be almost exactly the same color. So here is Loren… pattern mixing. The shirt has pin stripes, the skirt has horizontal stripes, and the socks have some kind of pattern on them.

And I must have had a small brain aneurism the other day, because after overspending on cute dresses during the Modcloth sale, I spent a lot of money on cute dresses from a Dorthy Perkins sale. And you guys, some of them are PATTERNED.  I have a little bonus/raise coming in at work so I can afford the things I ordered. But I was feeling guilty because I just don’t need them.

Then I remembered the immortal words of Tom Haverford.

P.S. I got these cute little oxfords off the clearance rack at Target for $6… W00t!

… Wait, Dorothy Perkins is having a sale? I’m out of here!

A sale on the sale stuff. Or maybe they were always that cheap and I don’t pay attention…

Great outfit! Definitely a subtle pattern mix (until you get to the socks, haha) and it works so well. Also? I wore this exact same button-down to a meeting this morning. Then I went home and changed into jeans and a comfier shirt…this one is really itchy on me, for some reason. You too?

    • http://hal.cyondays.com Loren Cline

I don’t find it that itchy but I have gotten other shirts there that are scratchy and practically un-wearable. I started double checking the polyester content on their stuff before I bought it. The less polyester generally the easier it is for me to wear.

I really like that white shirt, for some reason. It’s just . . . classy. And classic.

Soooo glad I didn’t know about the Modcloth sale. I’m not going to check to see if it’s still going on.

I had a hard time with pattern mixing, but now I LOVE it. The key? Keep it in the same color family and it’s matching. Perfection. Non-bloggers don’t really get it, but that’s okay. I too over spent during the ModCloth sale, but it was worth it.
