Competitions & Video Cameras

Skirt: Body Central, Boots: Thrifted, Jacket & (Altered) Shirt: Target

Sometimes I manage to find that outfit with the perfect balance between girly-ness and toughness. Short floral skirt with tough combat boots, sexy fishnet stockings with a torn superhero shirt, nerdy glass, tattoo showing.

Sunday night Curly-Haired boy participated in a March Madness style competition between Louisville comedians. It was a lot of fun, they had a ‘One liners round’ then an ‘Insult round’ then a ‘Short Set’ round and then a ‘Long set round’. It was quick fun elimination, and because my boyfriend is super funny & well loved he came out the winner. The ‘prize’ is a short set at the comedy club later in the month. I believe it is a paid gig, (something like $20) but mostly I was proud of him for winning.

I really need to get a video camera so I can pester you guys and all of You-tube with video of how awesome he is. I’ve go the cheapest DSLR on the market so it doesn’t come with a video option. I was thinking of finding a small & cheap camcorder but if I go that route I may as well just upgrade from my cheapo phone to a Droid Smart phone right? Those things have crazy awesome resolution. And I doubt I’m going to use a camcorder often enough to justify a big fancy one.

What are your video recording needs? Does your phone give you satisfactory resolution?

thanks!! again, these glasses are so adorable on you. love them! and I like your boots. and I like your asymmetrical zipper…..I was a film major so this subject is near and dear, I suppose. and yet, I too own a DSLR that only shoots stills. If you can afford a smart phone that shoots in 1080p, and your main goal is to share happenings with the internet, I would totally do it….a lot of where looks differ is actually in the lens and not the resolution, so if you’re not specifically looking for an artsy, professional blur, holds up well in low light deal, then yeah a phone with high resolution works great. my husband has an iPhone 4s and it’s pretty amazing what that thing can capture. looks better than most camcorders.

This just saved me so much time for research on the internet. A ‘smart-phone’ has been on my ‘someday’ list for a while now I think I might have to go ahead and splurge on one. My phone is about 2 years old, I usually use them until they break but maybe I will upgrade early this time.

I use my phone for video. I am a big 8mm app right now.

Okay, now you just look like you’re dressing yourself out of my closet. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Basically, I love this because I would totally wear it. (:

Thanks darling! I think I would ‘dress like you’ a lot more if I didn’t have to be buisness casual for work every weekday.

I just use my phone for doing short recordings, but would love to own a camcorder one day (especially if/when I have children).

Love this feminine meets grunge outfit – that skirt is such a pretty print :)

How exciting that your boyfriend won! Congrats to you both!

    Wolverine T-shirt, yes!

Sorry I can’t help on the video cam field – I rarely shoot videos and when I do it’s only on my crappy point-and-shoot camera.

P/S: Ian looks so chilled in that picture. Is he a calm dog? Because he always looks that way.

    • http://hal.cyondays.com Loren Cline

Haha, I would not call Ian ‘calm’. However, we’ve been working on ‘stay’ so he has gotten surprisingly good at posing for pictures because I’ve been placing him and then using to focus my camera lately ;)
He is totally entranced by a squirrel he just saw in this photo.

Half of my family has a Flip camcorder (as does my BF’s mom) and they all love them. Pretty cheap, good-quality vids. Also, don’t get a Droid smart phone. Spring for the iPhone. Seriously, I hate my Droid. I’ve gone through three phones (two original Droids and a Droid 2) in the past two and a half years. They’re terrible.
