Ah, that fateful day you reach for your next set of contacts only to realize there aren’t any there.
I wear my glasses pretty regularly these days but during most of high school & college running out of contacts would send me into a mild panic. Glasses make me look like a dweb! And then all my friends would comment, ‘I didn’t know you wore glasses Loren!’.
Part of me always wants to reply ‘Um… remember how I am majoring computer graphics, was captain of the Academic Team, and have more than a passing knowledge of table-top role-playing games. I also had braces for 4 years and didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was in fifth grade. So yeah, of course I have bad vision.‘
I’ve been really glad that glasses have become mainstream the past several years, because I have to buy them no matter what. Now I just have to feel less embarrassed about wearing them. Which means I have to buy fewer contacts, which means I spend less money! Hurray for the nerd revolution!
Still, I’m going to make an appointment with the optometrist next week.
