Out of Contacts

Dress: Dorothy Perkins (similar drop waist dress), Boots: Chinese Laundry (same), Glasses: Oliver Peoples (fun similar cheap sunglasses)

Ah, that fateful day you reach for your next set of contacts only to realize there aren’t any there.

I wear my glasses pretty regularly these days but during most of high school & college running out of contacts would send me into a mild panic. Glasses make me look like a dweb! And then all my friends would comment, ‘I didn’t know you wore glasses Loren!’.

Part of me always wants to reply ‘Um… remember how I am majoring computer graphics, was captain of the Academic Team, and have more than a passing knowledge of table-top role-playing games. I also had braces for 4 years and didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was in fifth grade. So yeah, of course I have bad vision.

I’ve been really glad that glasses have become mainstream the past several years, because I have to buy them no matter what. Now I just have to feel less embarrassed about wearing them. Which means I have to buy fewer contacts, which means I spend less money! Hurray for the nerd revolution!

Still, I’m going to make an appointment with the optometrist next week.

This dress is ah.mazing. The drop waist, pockets, slightly puffed sleeves, pretty sunny yellow… I love it and am jealous shift dresses hang off me like a bag. I want one like this but could never pull it off. Also, I feel like the only downfall to glasses is the sunny-day glare issue… I don’t even mind winter glasses fog-overs. I’m so happy we’ll be seeing you in your cutie specs for a while!

Also the inability to wear sunglasses. Driving to work is a pain lately.

I wear huge grandma sunglasses over my glasses. Classy.

I actually think you look adorable with glasses! And fabulously dress, it looks so vintage chic, I would n’t have known it was Dorothy Perkins. I like the fantastic color contrast with the purple scarf

Thanks so much. I don’t really mind the glasses now. I also started buying glasses that I really liked instead of ‘the cheapest thing I can find’.

I love the yellow paired with the purple. And I think you look adorable with glasses too!

(Also, glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t learn how to ride a bike until fifth grade :P)

I’ve found it is surprisingly common amongst my smart but awkward female friends! So don’t worry to much you are in good company.

I remember getting glasses when I was 15… I thought it was the worst thing that could happen. I was a ginger with freckles, a gap between her front teeth, an XL backpack, no style AND Glasses? It turned out not to be so bad, but after two years I got contacts too. I always orget to get new ones in time too though, haha!

I really love this yellow dress, by the way! Those cognac boots pair so well with it! x

Ha, I was about 12. I was short & freckly, later I got the braces and I basically gave up on looking cute until they came off.

Ugghhhhh contacts. I do love that glasses are trendy now, cause yay no contacts! I cheaped out and got the cheapest brand of contacts available. Bad plan. They are awful. My eyes hurt and itchy all the time. So uncomfortable.

One of my coworkers just got Lasek this week. JEALOUS.

I use the more expensive ‘Acuvue Oasis’ kind that you can leave in for a week, and OMG they are totally amazing. I completely forget they are in and end up sleeping in them for like 3 weeks straight.

A lot of people think I don’t even wear prescription glasses. But I CONSTANTLY wear glasses (except at home because I don’t need them all the time) but I totally wish I could wear colored contacts.

Love the complimentary colors and contrast, and that dress is such a beautiful color!

  • Virgnie

Hugh, I HATE when that happens (which is always because I am disorganized contact wise…). But your glasses are so cute, it’s kind of worth it in your case. Mine are so old, I usually resort to wearing Ramiro’s extra pair if I have to go out…

It does help that I sprung for glasses that I really like last year, instead of ‘the cheapest thing I can find’. But Curly-haired-boy’s prescription is WAY to strong for me.
