One of the Reasons I Style Blog

Outfits like this remind me exactly how self conscious I used to be. In high school I never would have walked out of the house in an outfit that showed any skin on my chest never mind a skirt that let you see that I have hips. Now you know my big secret, I was super uncomfortable with myself in high school.

In other news, after photographing this outfit I realized it probably wasn’t 100% work appropriate. It is kinda tight. Also the dress is so thin that it’s impossible to wear without leggings or tights underneath so it is constantly riding up, also it shrunk some in the wash and the length is a little awkward now. Sorry cute striped maxi dress, you are too see through & too short & kind of tight. This skirt puts only a thin layer of cotton between me and wearing LEGGINGS AS PANTS!

Edit 04.27.12 : Finally noticed that I misspelled ‘style’ in the title! Oh the humiliation! No one even pointed it out, probably because I wrote that I have mild dyslexia and now they all just feel sorry for me :(

And we know how you feel about wearing leggings as pants… *wince*

I’m glad blogging has encouraged you to be more adventurous in your fashion-choices. That’s a good thing.

Ack, I hope I did not hurt your feelings. I want to be helpful & supportive. Sometimes I am TO honest about my opinions though. Although usually I try keep them to myself.

It’s okay — I knew you were trying to help me.

Which brings me to the subject of… your spelling. After much consideration, I decided not to tell you about misspellings because I don’t want to hurt your feelings. No harm is done by them, so there’s no need for me to be a pedant.

If you decide that you’d like to be informed of errors, let me know and I’ll point them out to you. I could even do that in a private e-mail to avoid public view. Your feelings are more important to me than the presence of technical mistakes.

I think this outfit still works for the office…i can’t tell from here that the maxi is thin. Since you are in the creative line work i think the outfit is great. I like the cute striped maxi wi th a fabulous blue top and brown boots. Blogging is fun… it helps to see what you like and what you think don’t work for you

I think the length of the skirt could be really adorable with a little pair of flats come summertime. Long, but not too full. I love these slinky body-conscious silhouettes on you, you look so elegant and femenine. The thin material is a frustrating thing to work around, though… Have you tried a knee-length nude colored slip and a dryer sheet to remove static?

    • http://www.theinclinedplane.com/ Loren Cline

I haven’t tried it with a slip actually, although that would be the obvious solution…

I don’t think the outfit is inappropriate for work… but then again I’ve never worked in a conventional office so what do I know. And the skirt doesn’t look see-through to me, but if the length is awkward for you, maybe you could chop it off?

It is technically a dress, I went home & realized I might just be able to cut off the straps and pull the whole down to make it longer.

It’s amazing how differently our brains work the older we get. I’m way less conservative and self-conscious now. And this skirt is amazing!

I absolutely love this maxi dress- I think you made it work appropriate with the tee and simple jewellery! I used to show TONS of skin, because I had low self esteem and now I believe that the less you show the better- even sexier!

I don’t know if I’ve ever been a ‘the more skin the better’ person. But I do think there are times & places to wear that ‘sexy’ outfit in your closet ;)

I was the total opposite. I was super confident in high school and now I’m a bit more self conscious! :) Love that skirt, no matter how thin it is– you can’t really tell in the photos, so that’s ok in my book :)

but it’s so CUTE on you. and i was almost the same i was in high school as i was now. i wore pretty much always skirts and got comments from teachers about how i was really weird for always ‘dressing up’. i wasn’t confident, i just liked vintage clothes and cordoroy skirts. and i love that skirt. save it for summer weekends! i’m bad at being work appropriate myself. i sit indian style half the time in my chair. i have a blanket at my desk. i wear things with dogs on them. this would be more normal than me. and that top is a keeper – it’s a great color on you!

I started doing a lot more thrifting in high school once I got a car. Whew boy… the outfits i put together… they were certainly interesting.
I also sit Indian style in my office chair. I wish I had the guts to bring in a yoga ball because I used to love sitting on one to do my work at home.

I like the boots! I actually shrunk my only maxi dress, so I donated it because the length was funny on me.

Thanks darling! I’m glad I learned not to be scared of letting people SEE that figure.
