The Blanket Scarf

This scarf isn’t anything special, it’s a big yellow pashmina I bought at Old Navy (or was it Target?) for $12 a couple years ago. It’s 100% acrylic the little strands constantly come un-knotted. But it is enormous, and that is why it is my ‘blanket scarf’.

I don’t do a lot of traveling but the one traveling tip I have, take a ‘blanket scarf’. Layover in Chicago have to sleep on the floor in the airport? BAM, blanket scarf! Eight hour road trip to Dragon Con and you are trying to sleeping in the backseat of the car? BAM, blanket scarf! Guy next to you on the plane won’t turn down his little air nozzle thing? BAM blanket scarf! Hot date with your significant other during the summer, but you know the movie theater will be super cold? BAM! Blanket Scarf.

This scarf has been to Boston, Chicago, Columbus, LA and Atlanta with me. It went on my first date with Curly-haired-boy to see a midnight showing of Blade Runner (the best movie ever), it had been to countless other movies and plays with me because it goes with nearly all of my outfits. Overly air conditioned convention centers & movie theaters, outdoor events that start during the day and then get colder when the sun goes down. There are tons of places that I get cold and need an extra layer of warmth. Which I think more than anything just shows… that I have really poor circulation…

I took Ian dog for a walk right before I took these photos, it’s much warmer outside when you’ve just drug the dog a mile around the neighborhood.

What a useful scarf. Can you fly on it, too, like a magic carpet?

Your end-of-day picture had me laughing. Great stuff.

Oh, btw, I mentioned your name on my blog last night.

This scarf is one of the unsung hero’s in my closet.
Also thanks for the shout out! I got a little busy this weekend and didn’t get a chance to check out your post but I will read it soon :)

This is so funny, I use the same trick during travel. I can’t believe it’s taller than you though.
The purple blazer is just so very good. Another cheerful bright look from the color queen :)

To be fair, I am only 5’1″. But yeah I was a little surprised that it almost drags the ground when I hold it above my head.

Ha! That “end of the day” looks like mine… only I wouldn’t have the energy to even take a picture. I’ll just be slumping in front of my computer all bleary-eyed.

And now I’m convinced that I need a blanket scarf. I have a travel blanket, but a blanket scarf is so much cuter!

The trick is to find something light weight but huge so you can curl up under it but it doesn’t feel bulky around your neck.
Also scarves don’t have to be ‘packed’ they are just worn onto the plane ;)

The ‘end of the day’ photo kills me. :D You are awesome.
Also, I feel dumb, but I never thought of a blanket scarf trick before!

    • http://www.theinclinedplane.com/ Loren Cline

I stumbled upon it by accident when I was in the movie theater and got cold. Then I realized I should take it on all my trips. Because I constantly get cold.

haha..Loren, your pictures are so cute…I like the end of the day shot. Fabulous colors…adorable outfit on you. The floral dress is so pretty. The blanket scarf is huuuge. But so versatile. The pashmina is the most comfortable scarf to have.

Thanks sweetie. I got at least four complements on this combo that day. And the blanket scarf is a ‘must have’ for every woman.

Loren, you are a darling! I love the beginning and end of the day pictures! I’m almost ALWAYS like that too. And I heart a huge blanket scarf especially for traveling!

OMG “blanket scarf” is officially going on my Target shopping list right now

Be sure to find one in an obnoxiously bright color. It makes your sprawled out body on the air port floor *that much* harder to accidentally step on.

I love blanket scarves they are so versatile and can definitely keep you warm on a whim! Also I am loving your color combination and floral dress!

Good to know I’m not the only one who gets cold in random places. I pretty much always need a blanket.

hahahah you definitely know how to sell the blanket scarf, and I need no selling, i’ve already got one of my own.

My boyfriend randomly said ‘Bam! Blanket scarf!’ several times this weekend. So it would probably make a really good infomercial.
