I’ve Had the Time of My Life

I think we can all agree that I look adorable in 50′s style dresses. Fun realization, cute little brown belts break up patterned dresses really well, and help them feel more ‘spring appropriate’.

So instead of talking clothes I would like to address that a certain man in my life had never seen Dirty Dancing (proof that he didn’t have a girlfriend while he was in high school). Last weekend, after trying to describe the scene where Baby crawls across the floor singing Love Is Strange‘ for the one millionth time, I discovered that Dirty Dancing was available on Netflix instant view. So I turned it on forced him to watch it.

And by forced I mean, that I started watching it and poked Kent in the stomach so he would pay attention every time a good part came on. Until he finally was just watching it with me and asking lots of obnoxious questions  like ‘So wait, her dad is a doctor?’ and I’m like ‘Yeah, they said that at the beginning and then meaningfully showed a shot of his medical bag, but you were to busy making fun of me for turning on Dirty Dancing to notice’.

Kent decided that Dirty Dancing is pretty awesome.

Polka Dots

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, Jacket: Thrifted, Tights & Belt: Target

My few random & possible judgmental thoughts for the day.

  1. Did you know the term Polka dots came around because the pattern became popular around the same time Polka became popular? That’s what Wikipedia told me.
  2. These tights are from the little girls section (shorty alert) I got them several years ago before places like Target had tights in 75 million colors in the women’s section.
  3. Our downstairs neighbors still have all their Christmas decorations up. I can see them through the window every time I walk up the back stairs. What gives it’s nearly March?
  4. I felt really justified when that dude who passed me doing 80 in the 55 zone got pulled over by the cop who is ALWAYS sitting in the same spot around the next bend.
  5. I did not know what adult Whil Wheaton looked like until I saw him collating paper in this awesome article. I was wondering why a tertiary character featured so predominately on the front of The Guild DVDs. (In my head Whil Wheaton still looked like this. Much like this will always be Ron Howard.)

Weekend Outfit

Skirt & top: Thrifted, Stocking & Belt; Target, Shoes: Chinese Laundry, Little Hair Clips: Modcloth Extra

I forgot that blogging existed this weekend. (I frequently take the weekend ‘off’ from the internet anyway). Because of super bowl parties, volunteering at the fair trade store, working on my portfolio site (which isn’t quite finished) I didn’t take any photos this weekend either. So this outfit is from LAST weekend. We had drinks with friends and went dancing. It was a good weekend. It was also the social debut of my new haircut. I know I’ve written in excess about the hair cut, but I’m kinda in love with it. It feels both sweet and edgy.

P.S. Got these little hair clips as an extra in the Modcloth package that I ordered during their sale. They are super cute. I love it when companies throw in little extras.

Back to Black

Shoes: Gift, Tights: Target, Skirt: Hand-me down (My mother wore this skirt to her first job interview), Shirt: Kohls about 8 years ago

I’ve got a weird admission for you guys. I’ve always been scared to wear an all black outfit. I love it on other people. Alex does it and looks super classy, Audrey does it and looks mega cute. But I’ve always avoided it for fear of coming off as a funeral attendee. But I’m pretty sure I pulled it off you guys. I’ve figured the key is to mix your textures & patterns.

Discovery, black really is slimming!

Yesterday was such an awkward day, I woke up late, my neighbor’s adorable little beagle mix ran out the door this morning and we spent quite a bit of time looking for her (she’s home safe & sound now), we are in a big time crunch on my main project at work so I spent a good portion of the morning in a funk.

So even though curly-haired-boy had a comedy show, instead of attending I stayed home watched ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ (even though I am not getting married), ate a bunch of Sun Chips, drank to much cream soda, and played video games.

How do you guys get out of a funky mood? Any tips for things I haven’t tried yet?

Lacy Red Goodness

Dress & Jacket: Thrifted, Tights: Target, Shoes: Tsubo, Necklace: Homemade

Look out ladies! I’ve come down with a serious case of ‘sexy legs’.

I used to do the layered tights thing pretty regularly but I’ve never pulled off the look at work. I’ve been leaning more towards ‘high contrast’ outfits lately. I think this is one of my favorite ensembles lately.

I spent the afternoon with a friend at her co-worker’s home for some ‘lady time’. It was a lot of fun, the company was good, the food was good, but my introverted nature pushed through a little because once I got home I was exhausted. Not tired, just worn out. I can only handle a certain amount of social interaction at a time, I’d never really met these ladies before and while meeting new people is definitely POSITIVE social interaction it still feels really draining. Especially after a full day at work.

Still I am glad I went. It did make me feel like I need to be moving in a slightly different direction professionally. I think I’d like to take on more web design/development freelance projects. It’s a field that helps fulfill my creative side and my more analytical nature. (You guys, I REALLY like writing code, it’s like making up a puzzle in your head and then getting to solve it yourself. I like puzzles.) I need to finish up my portfolio website first, but I’d really like a few more pieces to put in it. Which means I might be looking for some blogs that would like to update their layouts for very very cheap (read free). Hint, hint. It’s definitely a limited time/ limited quantity offer but please feel free to give me a shout out if you think you’ll be interested in working with me on updating your blog layout. As long as you promise to be awesome, friendly, easy-going and not be offended if I run out of slots.
