Double Your Fun

I snagged this dress from the sale rack at Target for a couple bucks and wore it to work on Friday and then out to the ‘clubs’ that evening. I wanted to show off my ‘restyling’. For work I tried to keep it classy with a little undershirt and chunky necklace (to neutralize any cleavage), and some flats.

For the bar that evening I put on my very favorite tallest ‘karaoke shoes’. And got ready to dance the night away. I know, this one isn’t exactly a big swing. But I always love how much ‘cooler’ I feel in a pair of good heels compared to plain flats.

We’ve had a lot going on at the casa de Cline lately. So I’ve been a little absent from the internet. Sometimes even when I have time to blog it seemed important to make a little other things a priority. Like the boyfriend, reading fantasy novels, taking naps, and realizing that my brunette roots are REALLY obvious, so I’ll be stopping to get some pick-me-up dye on the way home form work today.

Channeling My Girl Crush

Shirt, Tights, Socks: Target, Boots: Etsy, Skirt: Modcloth
Monkey Painting: My neighbors trash

I saw this skirt on Modcloth when I was shopping during one of their sales this winter. I was like ‘Ooooo I love that! The colors are great and it reminds me of that skirt that Virginie has!’ So I added it to my cart (even though it wasn’t on sale, the horrors!!!!) And sometime after it was ordered but before it got to my house she wore it again. And I realized it was the EXACT same skirt. In case anyone doesn’t know I have a huge girl crush on Virginie but ordering the same clothes takes it to a whole new level. It’s about to get all Single White Female up in here.

So as an Ode to Virginie, and because I’ve been participating in the Freckles in April winter prompts I decided to try & channel Virginie. Who always seems to pull together the cutest elegant outfits and isn’t one of those bloggers who seems to have an infinitely large closet. Also she is making a movie, which is awesome. So Virginie, while I may have some of the same clothing as you, occasionally try to dress like you, I pinky promise not to get your hair cut and then try to murder you.

It was raining, and dark, and I forgot my tripod… SO indoor shots. They ended up better than I expected (although still not great) and Ian-dog insisted on being in the pictures.

Purple Monochrome With Pink Shoes

Plaid Shirt & Blazer: Thrifted, Pants: NY&C, Shoes: Amazon.com, Purple Shirt: Homemade

It was so very cold & windy outside when I took these photos that I forgot to 1) Take my hands out of my pockets, 2) Take any close up shots, 3) Properly anchor my tripod, so it blew over the SECOND I let go and turned my back. Everything is ok though, because it toppled over into some nice soft mud. Everything still works and is relatively clean. You can tell it is very windy because OMG MY HAIR. It’s exactly the right length to look SUPER CRAZY when it’s windy but not yet fly into my face. Which I think is the worst length because I almost never self aware enough to know that my hair looks crazy.

A nice middle aged guy at work told me he ‘liked my mocassions’ I almost said ‘actually they are boat shoes’. But instead I said ‘Thanks!’. I love it when middle aged guy complement something I am wearing it seems so out of character for them. But they also seem to love my red boots, and an awesome pair of metal rainbow-circle-earrings that I can’t seem to find any pictures of.

I’d pinned a pair of pink little-girl boat shoes really similar to these some time ago. Then I spotted these on Amazon (because Amazon creepily always knows what I’ve been looking at lately) and I meant to hit ‘add to cart’ so I could leave them there for a little while and think about it wait for them to go on sale. Instead I hit the ’1-click shopping button’ and the shoes were on their way. Curse your convenience Amazon.  When I got them and had NO idea what to wear them with. After the nice complement I’m pretty sure I am wearing them ‘correctly’.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. Curly-haired-boy and I spent a good deal of it curled up on the couch watching Downton Abbey, which is AWESOME. My mother told me so. But really, who believes their mothers when she talks about TV shows? I will put more faith into the next things she suggests.

A Winter ‘Clubbing’ Outfit

Boots: Etsy, Shorts: Gap cut-offs, Tanks & Cardigan: Old Navy, Comfy Old Man Sweater: Thrifted

In the name of full disclosure I did NOT wear this outfit this weekend except for a few hours sitting on the couch with the boy. But every time I’ve worn it out it’s been much to dark outside to take decent photos because this has become my go-to ‘winter bar outfit’. Like a lot of people I enjoy going out for a drink on a regular basis, and like a lot of other women I sometimes like to put on something a little revealing. I usually don’t post them here in case my mother or employer happen to be reading. But the problem with revealing outfits is that… they are cold. And it is winter time.

My happy medium is leggings, cow-lady boots (which is what I call cowgirl boots with a heel that is WAY to large to be wearing on a real farm) shorts, a couple tanks, cardigan, and big comfy old man sweater. It’s really easy to strip down a few layers when you get into the bar, the more Karaoke you sing the warmer the bar gets. The pieces are pretty interchangeable meaning I look a little different every time we go out. Also please note the cool looped together necklaces.

Also! I nearly forgot! Notice anything new, different and exciting? Might be hard to tell from these photos. But I’ve got a new hair color. It’s pretty subtle (even in person) but it’s much redder and a little darker than it used to be. I walked ALL the way down to the Walgreens (four blocks) and picked up some color last weekend. I was going to post a stop motion video of the coloring but then I got sick last week. :(

I think it still needs a little trim, so no worries my shaggy headed bowl cut goodness will soon be gone.

Yellow Jacket

Jacket: Victoria Secret, Skirt & Boots: Thrifted, Old Navy Tee

Do you even keep things in the back of your closet and forget just how AWESOME they are? That was this jacket. It seemed a little ridiculous a couple seasons ago when I bought it. But this winter it seems right on trend. It’s known to my friends as my ‘Jubilee’ jacket.

Other parts of this outfit got a little out of hand. The  outfit seemed perfect until I walked outside bare legged, realized it was freezing and I needed to go put on some tights. I ended up with the pink + grey combo but it just doesn’t sit with me right. I’ll probably try this combo again when it’s a little warmer. As much as I really love this corduroy floral skirt it’s really hard to find things in my closet to wear with it.

Anyone have any floral skirt suggestions?
