Birthday Proposal

Skirt: Hand-me-down, Dress (as a top): Modcloth, Tights & Belt: Target, The Awesomest Boots: Zappos Outlet

Internet, I would like to propose a new standard for celebrating birthdays. No one is allowed to ‘have a birthday’ during the first week of any month, I just don’t think it’s fair to those of us who have to remember them. I would like to say during the first 14 days of the month but it seems like I might be stretching my influence a little. (You all know what a big influence I have on the internet). My birthday is on a good solid 27th of July, plenty of time to reach July, remember there is a birthday coming up, go out & buy a present, wrap it, and prepare for a party.

Other very inconsiderate people have their birthday’s EARLY in the month. So that once you have reached the first of the month it is already to late. There practically no time left to plan or purchase anything. It strongly decreases the chance that people will remember, and increases your chances of disappointment.

So I propose that if you have a birthday early in the month that you merely add 10-15 days to the number so your date can be celebrated later at a reasonable time. Giving people plenty of time to remember it and buy you a present.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my Mother tomorrow.

P.P.S. I already got her a present.

Inappropriate Boots

Sweater: Thrifted, Skirt: Thrifted & altered, Boots: Consigned

I’ve avoided wearing these boots to work because they seem kinda… sexy. At least to sexy for the office. I decided to risk it on Monday and ran into the company owner’s wife, she works in the customer service department, on the way in the door.  She told me my outfit was adorable. So I feel like I was probably pretty safe after all.

I wear size 5 shoes and one of the best things about having little feet is all the options I seem to find in vintage stores. Especially in the BOOTS department. These are actually a little bit small for me (say what?) and after the FIRST time I wore them out Ian-dog destroyed the fabric on the heel off one of them. I went down to Hancock fabrics, picked up a little bit of faux leather and some outdoor modge-podge to mend it. You can barely even tell! But not so much that I will give you a close-up of the heel because you can TOTALLY tell.

White Stripes

Sweater: Thrifted, Boots: Thrifted, Skirt: Modcloth, Leggings: Target, Grey Socks: Smart wool

And one grumpy ‘Why-is-it-so-cold’ face to grow on.

I am wearing white, and also stripes. But also I do love the White Stripes. So this post title seemed perfect.

We’ve been watching Deadwood and Boardwalk Empire because that is what you do when you live with a boy. While I’m certainly not a prude, seriously HBO is all the nudity and curse words necessary? You can’t get through an episode without a sex scene or seeing Ron Swanson’s junk (yeah… Nick Offerman gets naked… it’s weird).

To make up for all this debauchery Netflix introduced a couple seasons of Say Yes to the Dress, which we’ve also been watching. Let me tell you how adorable it is when curly-haired-boy pretends not to care but then yells at the TV ‘What! How could her mom SAY that to her?’

Love.that.man.

I am still not getting married.

Chambray & Floral

Skirt: Thrifted & Altered, Boots: Chinese Laundry, Tights: Old Navy, Shirt: Target, Necklace: Just Creations

So now that I finally found a cheap chambray shirt that I like I have discovered why everyone is wearing them all over the place. I spent the weekend working on my portfolio site. (Which is close to finished, but I feel like I’ve been working on it FOREVER.)

We have a surprise birthday party planned for a friend of mine tomorrow evening. So I’m going to spend tonight making some devil’s food cake cupcakes. I’m thinking of filling them with lime marmalade and putting pink icing on top. I’ve never made filled cupcakes before. I’ve read a couple tutorials online but if anyone has some tips I’ve love to hear them.

Back to Black

Shoes: Gift, Tights: Target, Skirt: Hand-me down (My mother wore this skirt to her first job interview), Shirt: Kohls about 8 years ago

I’ve got a weird admission for you guys. I’ve always been scared to wear an all black outfit. I love it on other people. Alex does it and looks super classy, Audrey does it and looks mega cute. But I’ve always avoided it for fear of coming off as a funeral attendee. But I’m pretty sure I pulled it off you guys. I’ve figured the key is to mix your textures & patterns.

Discovery, black really is slimming!

Yesterday was such an awkward day, I woke up late, my neighbor’s adorable little beagle mix ran out the door this morning and we spent quite a bit of time looking for her (she’s home safe & sound now), we are in a big time crunch on my main project at work so I spent a good portion of the morning in a funk.

So even though curly-haired-boy had a comedy show, instead of attending I stayed home watched ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ (even though I am not getting married), ate a bunch of Sun Chips, drank to much cream soda, and played video games.

How do you guys get out of a funky mood? Any tips for things I haven’t tried yet?
