One of the Reasons I Style Blog

Outfits like this remind me exactly how self conscious I used to be. In high school I never would have walked out of the house in an outfit that showed any skin on my chest never mind a skirt that let you see that I have hips. Now you know my big secret, I was super uncomfortable with myself in high school.

In other news, after photographing this outfit I realized it probably wasn’t 100% work appropriate. It is kinda tight. Also the dress is so thin that it’s impossible to wear without leggings or tights underneath so it is constantly riding up, also it shrunk some in the wash and the length is a little awkward now. Sorry cute striped maxi dress, you are too see through & too short & kind of tight. This skirt puts only a thin layer of cotton between me and wearing LEGGINGS AS PANTS!

Edit 04.27.12 : Finally noticed that I misspelled ‘style’ in the title! Oh the humiliation! No one even pointed it out, probably because I wrote that I have mild dyslexia and now they all just feel sorry for me :(

Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most

Skirt: Modcloth, Boots: Chinese Laundry, Socks & Scarf: Target, Shirt: So old I’m not sure.

Hang up all my jackets in the that is! Cuz I don’t need to wear them right now! Can I get a ‘What, What’?

No?

Never mind.

I love wearing blazer at work because you can throw them over pretty much anything thing and claim it is ‘buisness casual’. Spring & summer ruin that for me. As I was getting dressed this morning I was looking for that one specific black blazer you know what I mean, not the black one, or the other black one but the specific black blazer I am thinking of. I remembered I wore it last week and probably left it in the backseat of my car. So I finished getting dressed ran out to my car (sans jacket, sorry mom I’m pretty sure I’ll be ok). You guys there were enough missing blazers in the backseat of my cart to suit up an entire women’s basketball team. Like not just the people on the court, the bench warmers would be warm too.

Except I’m all of 5’2″ on a tall day. So maybe more like the American gymnast team. (How many women would that be?) Doesn’t matter they are all super short, I could send them to the Olympics in style this summer.

Inappropriate Boots

Sweater: Thrifted, Skirt: Thrifted & altered, Boots: Consigned

I’ve avoided wearing these boots to work because they seem kinda… sexy. At least to sexy for the office. I decided to risk it on Monday and ran into the company owner’s wife, she works in the customer service department, on the way in the door.  She told me my outfit was adorable. So I feel like I was probably pretty safe after all.

I wear size 5 shoes and one of the best things about having little feet is all the options I seem to find in vintage stores. Especially in the BOOTS department. These are actually a little bit small for me (say what?) and after the FIRST time I wore them out Ian-dog destroyed the fabric on the heel off one of them. I went down to Hancock fabrics, picked up a little bit of faux leather and some outdoor modge-podge to mend it. You can barely even tell! But not so much that I will give you a close-up of the heel because you can TOTALLY tell.

White Stripes

Sweater: Thrifted, Boots: Thrifted, Skirt: Modcloth, Leggings: Target, Grey Socks: Smart wool

And one grumpy ‘Why-is-it-so-cold’ face to grow on.

I am wearing white, and also stripes. But also I do love the White Stripes. So this post title seemed perfect.

We’ve been watching Deadwood and Boardwalk Empire because that is what you do when you live with a boy. While I’m certainly not a prude, seriously HBO is all the nudity and curse words necessary? You can’t get through an episode without a sex scene or seeing Ron Swanson’s junk (yeah… Nick Offerman gets naked… it’s weird).

To make up for all this debauchery Netflix introduced a couple seasons of Say Yes to the Dress, which we’ve also been watching. Let me tell you how adorable it is when curly-haired-boy pretends not to care but then yells at the TV ‘What! How could her mom SAY that to her?’

Love.that.man.

I am still not getting married.

Sale Overboard

Sweater: Thrifted, Dress (as a skirt) & belt: Dorothy Perkins, Tights & Shoes: Target, Jacket: Old Navy

I went a little over budget last month ordering dresses during some online sales. This little number from Dorothy Perkins (the dress as a skirt) was one of my favorites and I pretty much lived in it last weekend. This wool sweater I accidentally put into the washer with the dog’s bed and ran on ‘hot’ so now it is quite a bit smaller than the last time I wore it. I’m real tempted to go ahead and try to shrink it again, and get it down to a reasonable size.

I’m not sure this outfit is terribly flattering, but it was warm, cozy, and fun for a winter weekend, I think I should invest in some striped sweaters that actually fit me soon.

I wish I had more important thoughtful things to say or a fun anecdote, but instead I have some pretty sweet ‘hovering’ photos for you. I’ve always enjoyed but have become a bit obsessed with ever since Kimmie posted a link to this lovely lady
