Bright Colors

Boots: Chinese Laundry, Tights, Skirt, Jacket: Target, Sweater: Victoria Secret, Scarf: Avatar (via Just Creations)

So I’m still playing along with the Freckles in April outfit prompts. Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else tell you what to wear :)

Today the prompt was bright colors, which felt a little bit like cheating for me because that’s like telling me to breath oxygen, or eat to much chocolate, or watch six episodes of Cake Boss back to back. I don’t need telling, these are just things that I DO. Still I copped out yesterday and wore something I’ve worn a squillion times before but I’m pretty sure I’ve never blogged it. So it still counts right? I’m also rocking a new hair cut, so I feel like I can go back a couple weeks, post the same outfit, and call it ‘new’ because new hair basically makes it a whole new outfit right?

Also thanks everyone for being so nice about the hair. My brain tells me that I will look ‘better’ with longer hair because I am a girl and that I should grow it out, but my heart knows I’m meant for a pixie cut. Which is why I keep hacking it all off. Even when I have different hair I still ‘picture’ myself with shorter hair. Is that weird?

Anyone else out there thinking about Valentine’s day plans? I’m not much of a romantic, but I think we are going to try something fun this year involving blanket forts (thanks for that inspiration Emma), maybe some Bollywood films (Ki was talking about them a little while ago, I LOVE me some Bollywood films but Curly-haired0-boy has never really watched any), maybe some easy homemade art I can hang on the walls, and definitely some heart garlands. And something for dinner. What is delicious simple Valentines food? I can make a mean curry but that is basically my only cooking skill. Yummy, but hardly ‘romantic’.

Off to See the Show

Sweater: Victoria Secret, Shorts: really old... Necklace: Just Creations, Tights: Target, Shoes: Trifted

Kent Wears (Thirfted pants & shoes, with a Target Hoody that he has had for TO MANY YEARS, and doesn't want me to replace)

Last Saturday we went to see Evil Dead: The Musical. This is what I wore, I got a little fake blood on the sweater because it was EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, but we managed to get out the spots. Then I absent mindedly threw this WOOL sweater into the wash, I hope it still fits when it’s dry :(

Curly-haired-boy and I were going to make it a date night, but then I accidentally invited a bunch of friends (by telling them our plans, and they were all ‘Cool’ and I was like ‘Wanna come with us?’ and they did). So it became an ‘outing’. A lot of our dates end up that way. A couple week ago we went out for dinner and ran into six people we knew and ended up needing a larger table to seat everyone. It’s really great to have such a fantastic group of close knit friends and live in a fun city. But sometimes I feel like we just need a DATE night. Maybe we’ll sneak out to a place no one we know goes very often.
Also, I’m pretty sure these purple heart stockings are the most amazing thing that has happened to me in a long time.

I’ll be back later with some Halloween costume photos. I left my camera in the car and didn’t feel like putting on shoes to walk ALL the way outside to get it. Lazy Sundays are the best.

The ‘Sweater Dress’

My curly-haired-boy does stand-up comedy. I promise that he is very funny although I don’t have video proof.
Last week he was doing an ‘audition’ for a local club, meaning he got five minutes to do his stuff in front of a crowd while the club owner watched. We went to see/support him, even though it was kind of late (8:30pm) on a Wednesday night. (I like to go to bed early because I am an old lady.) So I met my friend A there. Although we are good friends A and I do not agree about many things, politics, books, religion, which actors are cute, and (most importantly) fashion. While we can agree to disagree, or at least avoid most of the topics that we don’t see eye to eye on we still sometimes struggle over fashion. She will ask ‘Don’t you think this looks good?’ While wearing white booty shorts, a lime green one shoulder sleeveless top, & flip flops. I will just purse my lips and just say ‘Mmmhmm’.

So when I show up to a comedy show wearing an over sized sweater, leggings-as-pants, & black lace up boots she says things like ‘Oh… you decided not to belt it…’
In my head I was like “YEAH, I’m not wearing PANTS, belting it will expose all my goods for the world to see.” Out loud I didn’t say anything because I know that we both think we are more fashionable than the other.

Extra Large Sweater: Goodwill $4, Amazing Boots: Thrift store $20, Leggings: Target I think? $10 probably, Enormous Silver Earrings: Just Creations $8

But I trust your opinions (more than hers)… Would you have worn a belt to accentuate your waist but risked exposing your bottom? Stick with beltless? OR do you think I should probably wear REAL pants when I go outside?

THERE’S A POLL!

How would you wear this oversized sweater?

Blogger-Crush: dash dot dotty

Do you guys read dotty’s blog? She has a seriously enviable sense of style and pulls together so many cute looks with a well curated wardrobe. She also posts adorable graphic art a couple times a month with short quotes and lots of solid colors.

A couple weeks ago she posted a look that she called her office uniform, blazer, shapeless dress, and a scarf.
dot_cfanI decided to borrow her look, since I just thrifted the perfect dress for a ‘blogger crush’ post. I also borrowed dotty’s photography style and took my dog and camera out in search of a big blank wall to take pictures in front of.

Tights & Shoes: Old Navy, Dress: Merona via Goodwill, Scarf: Target, Blazer: Express, Earrings: a gift

I was going to use a yellow scarf to REALLY match dotty but the blue one really brings out my eyes ;) Also this wall looks much grosser in these photos than it felt in person, it’s the side of a hardware store down the street from me.

It’s been chilly in Louisville all week so I finally got to break out my blazers. I love blazers. And big thanks to dotty for being an awesome inspiration.

The Maxi Moto Combo

Tank top: Old Navy 5$, Striped maxi dress (as skirt) Target 11$, Pink Moto Jacket: Target 8$, Belt: Target 4$, Off Broadway 26$, Earrings & Necklace: Just Creations 8$ each

Dear Internet: I have a confession and that is that I got all dressed up, put on my make-up, fixed combed my hair, and then DIDN’T LEAVE MY COUCH. The plus side, jersey maxi-skirts are the BEST for napping and playing computer games on the couch all day.

We did have plans to go to Art in Speed Park with Curly-Haired-Boy’s parents. But he ended up having to work and I chickened out and did not go with just his parents. This is what I would have worn… Sans the boots. Because it is outside, in a field.

Thanks to Nora and Megan for choosing Olivia Wilde as the ‘inspiration’ this week.
